| AKA: Johnson Mountain Elevation: 5,220 feet State: Washington State County: Kittitas County In area: Teanaway USGS quad: Teanaway Butte UTM: 10T 657074E 5247183N (NAD27) Trip Reports and References
Name origin"The Mountaineers blandly call this summit Johnson Mtn, an overused term in Washington, after the creek that drains to the north. But with staunch Republican Mike Bialos along, an alternative name seemed in order. For years, whenever Buff relieves himself in the woods, he proudly announces, "There's another vote for 'Goldwater.' Someday he's going to beat LBJ, when all the mountain precinct votes are counted." Johnson, as you may recall, thoroughly trounced Goldwater in the '64 presidental election. So instead of Johnson, this peak became Goldwater to us, as Buff marked his way to the top." - From John Roper's May 8, 1999 trip report on The Northwest Peakbaggers Asylum.Maps
