Date: 2004/07/31 to 2004/08/01 Trip type: scramble Special gear: helmet USGS Quads: Polallie Ridge, Chikamin Peak In Area: Alpine Lakes Wilderness Aesthetic rating: 4.5/5 Trip Organizer: The Mountaineers Scrambling Committee Trip ReportWe hiked up Mineral Creek to the Pacific Crest Trail. We camped at the Park Lake N of the Pacific Crest Trail, there are a number of nice spots here. The next morning we went west on the Pacific Crest Trail a short distance until we were below point 5,402. We crossed the little col between point 5,402 and 6,300 and followed a boot path down the other side to Glacier Lake. We followed the bootpath over Glacier Lake's outlet and ascended N of Glacier Lake, passing the big standing rock. We followed the intermitant bootpath to the tarn around 5,360+ (passing the fork to the right that probably leads to Chikamin Lake). From the tarn we went SW to the little col and then headed up the SE slopes of Chikamin Peak to the S ridge and ascended the S side of the summit. CommentsGreat trip. Glacier Lake is beautiful, but I only saw one good camping spot. Chikamin Lake looks like it could be a good destination. I thought helmets would have been useful on the final approach to the peak.ReferencesMaps
