Date: 2004/10/24 Trip type: scramble Special gear: ice axe Elevation gain: approx. 3,995 feet (approx 1,217 meters) Round-trip distance: approx. 6.5 miles Total Time: 7 hours 13 minutes USGS Quads: Davis Peak, Mount Stuart In Area: Teanaway Aesthetic rating: 4/5 Trip Organizer: The Mountaineers Scrambling Committee Trip ReportFrom the trailhead (see driving directions) we immediately went off trail and headed up the ridge to our SE (the one just S of Camp Creek). The first 100 feet or so was snowy with very mild bushwacking, but it soon opened up so that we could usually avoid brush. Once the ridge became pronounced at around 5,200' the route to the west summit of Hawkins Mountain was a straight-forward ridge walk (we were kicking steps in the snow by around 6,200') and the views were out. CommentsThe ridge had great views of Hawkins Mountain for much of this trip, Goat Mountain and Davis Peak were also in full view. On our way up the skies were partially clear. Fine, dry snow blew on us over the tiny cornices on the top of the ridge as the sun sparkled on the snow. Very beautiful. We ascended into the clouds, so we got no views on the summit. References
Driving DirectionsTook I-90 east from Seattle. Took exit 80 off of I-90 and followed signs to Roslyn and Ronald, this got us onto SR-903. Took SR-903 north through Roslyn and Ronald. The Last Resort Restaurant was on the right 4 miles (very approximate) past Ronald. From the Last Resort Restaurant we continued north on SR 903, which became Salmon la Sac Road. At a fork, we went right onto road 4330. Then we went right onto road 138 (I didn't see a sign identifying it as such). We parked at the first intersection where the sign for trail #1392 was to the right and the sign for road 4WD305 was to the left.
