Trip Report

Atsuko and I parked in the Pratt Lake/Granite Mountain trailhead and headed up the trail. We passed the fork to Granite Mountain and continued toward Pratt Lake for a short distance until we crossed a creek gulley. The trail switchbacks a couple times right after the gulley, after the last switchback we left the trail and went north cross-country, staying to the west of the gulley. The forest was mostly clear of underbrush. Almost any way to West Granite Mountain from the south would go, we crossed the bottom of the little basin south of the summit at 4,800', ascended the SW ridge, and summited from there. It was a walk-up. There were boulder fields after 4,600', but even with the thin snowpack (about 1.5 feet) they weren't much of a problem.
