Date: 2005/05/21 Trip type: hike Elevation gain: approx. 2,280 feet Round-trip distance: approx. 7.5 miles Car-to-car time: 4 hours 22 minutes USGS quad: Mount Stuart In area: Teanaway After having a Mountaineer's climb of Ingalls Peak turn around at Ingalls Pass due to icy-looking friction slabs earlier in the morning, I wanted something I could summit. Nearby Koppen Mountain was perfect. The trail trail to Koppen Mountain was pleasant and mostly forested until reaching the north ridge of Koppen Mountain, interestingly it appears the lower part of the trail is even open to motorcycles. Once on the north ridge leading to the summit the trail had nice views. The summit had unobstructed 360 degree views including Mount Stuart, Hawkins Mountain, Esmerelda Peaks, and The Louvre. I enjoyed reading the unusually large summit register for an hour before the next party arrived. ReferencesMaps
