Birkenfeld Mountain from Bonneville Hot Springs

Date: 2009/04/28
Trip type: scramble
Elevation gain: approx. 3,825 feet
Car-to-car time: 6 hours 49 minutes
USGS quad: Beacon Rock
In area: Columbia River Gorge

Michael, Dad, and I parked in a gravel lot behind the Bonneville Hot Springs Lodge, hiked up a road a few hundred feet to an intersection of three roads and a trail. We followed the trail, which took us to Carpenters Lake. From there we followed a mixture of road and trail that hooked us up with the PCT.

After skirting the west slopes of Table Mountain and crossing under the power lines, the PCT became obscured by snow and we left the trail and followed the top of the ridge over point 3563 (very pleasant) to the summit of Birkenfeld Mountain. The summit was tree-covered, but had good views toward the gorge.
